About the Artist
I started painting in the 1990’s and started to sell paintings through galleries. Through the years, the galleries I worked with changed, I changed my media to include oils, I opened my studio to the public, and I became a juried signature member of the American Impressionist Society as an associate member of the Oil Painters of America. Then after selling artwork professionally for close to thirty years, I took a step back from full time creation of artwork.
This life pivot was in equal measure due to life events and because I felt burned out in art —from dealing with galleries, maintaining my studio, teaching art and having every waking moment focused on art. Even on a walk, hike, bike ride or vacation I found I was zoning in on what I saw and analyzing the colors, composition and thinking how I would capture the scene in paint if I was painting on location or feeling the need to snap a photo to have a reference to paint later.
Not a healthy way to live day to day.
So I pulled back in art. Around 2014, I started to slow down. I stopped teaching, I stopped selling through galleries with the unending pressure to create new work on speculation, and I tried to balance my life in a better way with more dimensions to my life. In 2016, I closed my studio to being open to the public. Along the way, people would continue to find me — some would purchase work on my website but I also started to do commissioned paintings, something I found interesting, a challenge and rewarding.
Sometimes the project would come from someone liking one of the paintings they saw on my website, but wanted something slightly different. The reason might be simply to fit in the decor and color scheme of their personal space, but often it was to create a painting that celebrated a memory, captured a special place or time in either their lives or as a gift for a loved one.
Currently, the main focus of selling my artwork is by doing commissioned pieces only.
